We’re RVG Law: a tight-knit team of lawyers who believe getting good legal advice shouldn’t require you to jump through hoops or roll your eyes.
When you’ve got something important going on, the last thing you need is your lawyer adding more stress to the equation. So we keep things personal and straightforward. And yes, RVG stands for Really Very Good. We figured if you’re going to put something in the name, you may as well give yourself a standard to live up to.

There’s a reason RVG isn’t your typical law firm: we never wanted to be.
We’re here to get really good legal results for our clients. Obviously. That’s the job. But how we get there matters too.
You’ll always deal directly with your lawyer at RVG. They’ll keep you in the loop and explain things in a way that actually makes sense. When there’s a decision to make, they’ll give you sound, practical advice to help you make it. No smoke and mirrors.
We use some terrific tech behind the scenes, especially to take care of the repetitive stuff. This frees up more time to spend on the things that actually need a lawyer. Makes perfect sense if you ask us. Go on, ask us.
Most of all, we like getting to know the people we work with. Some need us for a single property transaction. Others stick around as their businesses grow, circumstances change, and the next big thing comes along. Either way – you’re very much a person and not a file number.
We’re a small team with heaps of know-how. When you work with RVG, you’ll know exactly who your lawyer is and how to get hold of them. Spoiler alert: it’ll be one of these folks:

Janine Ballinger
Director & Partner

Director & Partner
“RVG is my chance to practise law the way I know people want: easy, accessible and clear. I want my clients to feel comfortable working with me. We can still build robust professional relationships without unnecessary formalities.”
Janine is one of the brains behind this operation, bringing an enormous amount of experience, formidable expertise, and endless enthusiasm to RVG Law.
When it comes to residential and commercial property law, Janine is one of the best in the business – and she strives to deliver nothing short of the best possible results for her clients. Sales, purchases, and lease agreements; land, buildings and negotiations; due diligence, disputes, advice, and portfolio management. It’s all part of Janine’s repertoire.
Janine started RVG Law to break the mould of legal services in New Zealand. She wanted to shape a more efficient service – speak to clients directly, get to know them, build better relationships. And, well, give them really good legal advice at every turn.
If you’re involved in a property-related transaction, Janine can help. Buyers, sellers, tenants, landlords, real estate agents, developers, investors, subdividers… you get the idea.

Emily Nind
Director & Partner

Director & Partner
“I believe in adding value by getting to know my clients and getting involved as early as possible. I’ve seen how the right advice at the right time can save so much time and money – and avoid problems down the track too. I want people to feel comfortable picking up the phone and talking to me, whatever they need help with.”
Emily is another RVG co-founder and a very safe pair of hands. She’s big on getting to know her clients properly, being easy to reach, and making even the trickier legal stuff feel considerably less daunting.
Property is a big part of Emily’s world. She works across residential and commercial property, with particular expertise in developments, subdivisions, unit titles, and Canterbury earthquake issues. She’s done the hard yards on some seriously complex matters, so she knows where problems tend to hide – and the value of getting a lawyer involved before things go really awry.
But property is only part of the picture. Emily also does plenty of private client work, helping people with trusts, wills, estate planning, and the other important legal things that crop up as life changes around you.
Whatever brings you through the door, Emily’s approach is much the same: get to know you, make you feel welcome, explain things clearly, and be there when you need her. Sounds rather RVG, doesn’t it?

Jo Aitken
Office Boss, Christchurch

Jo is the boss of our Christchurch office. She’s our right hand, left hand, both arms and feet, central nervous system woman. You get the idea.
She’s also been around the legal industry for a serious stint, so there isn’t much that gets past her. Jo keeps her finger firmly on the pulse of what’s happening around the office, keeps the rest of us heading in the right direction, and is always happy to help clients with whatever they need.
Not sure who to speak to? Ask Jo. She’ll know what to do.

Got a legal question? Know exactly what you need? Not even sure what you should be asking yet?
All good. Get in touch and we’ll take it from there.
You can find our Terms of Engagement here. It’s not exactly beach reading, but it’s worth a look all the same. We’ve kept things as simple as we can.
